Trendy Fashion Versus Style Personality
Have you ever worn a current trend, but half way in the day, you take it off an leave it in your handbag? Your friend looked so stylish in it, but for some or other reason, you just don’t feel comfortable wearing it? That is because, although it is a trend, it’s not your style. A fashion trend is a particular style, or clothing popular at a certain point of time or a particular period of time. Take for example: the ongoing fashion trend is cycling shorts for women in the past seasons. Unfortunately, not every woman will love the trend. Not everyone’s body will be best accentuated with this trend.
The Fashion industry is a multibillion-dollar global enterprise devoted to the business of making and selling clothes. Fashion is seasonal, cyclical, and trendy. Someone you don’t know, has decided what the ‘best’ look for the next few months is. Some companies rotate trends much more frequently. So what’s on trend may not suit you. You may not like it. Trends will most certainly not be fashionable once the next cycle begins, and sticking to them can be dangerously expensive, wasteful and psychologically damaging. Why do we allow someone else to tell us what we should spend our money on and how we should look? Just to change when the next cycle begins? Fashion doesn’t really give you style— it gives you something to wear. Fashion is about “what trends are currently out in the market”.
Style Personalities are so much more interesting. It’s the vibe you give off when you wear clothes, when you walk in them, when you talk to people in something you love and you feel good about it. Style is an expression of who you are. It’s as much a part of you as your laugh.
The most stylish woman you know probably has a Style Personality that you find easy to identify. She’s not the most fashionable woman but she’s surprisingly CONSISTENT in her choice of clothes. She’s found a look that suits her body shape, it’s appropriate for her lifestyle, she knows what makes her feel confident and comfortable, and STICKS WITH IT! Depending on lifestyle and her personal taste that look may be classic or dramatic, natural or romantic.
Developing the right style, cultivating it and finding brands that bring out that side of your personality is so much fun. And the more you do this, the more comfortable you’ll get in your own style and the less you’ll care about fashion. Style personality is where you embrace your instinctive taste and individuality. It’s what makes YOU an individual and allows your creativity to blossom!
Once I discovered what reflected my personality, it was impossible for me to feel the same way in any other type of clothing.
Check out my next blog on the different Style Personalities. I want to help you in any way I can to harness who you are, what you want to share with the world, and to display that in a way that makes you feel fantastic.
